Preaching & Teaching Minister
Valley Christian Church
Billings, Montana
Preacher
Full Time
We are a small church serving Billings, MT. Currently we have an attendance of 35 – 45 at our worship services. We currently only have a few children and pre-teens who attend. We have been praying that God sends a man who will preach the word of God with enthusiasm, love, grace and a heart for his people.
Our identity: We are ordinary people helping each other become faithful followers of Jesus.
Our vision: To know God, to be His people and to change lives.
Our mission: Matthew 28: 18-20
The Preaching and Teaching Minister; working in conjunction with our elders and leadership team will act as a catalyst in equipping people to fully experience the life change and transformation offered through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ by ministering the word of God through relevant preaching, engaging teaching, equipping discipleship and kingdom focused evangelism and outreach.
Overview:
40-hour workweek (schedule to be coordinated with the elders)
Sunday – Thursday (or as needed)
In office 2 days to accommodate drop-in visits (consultations)
Expectations:
We trust our minister to manage their own time effectively and work with a high degree of autonomy. We believe in empowering our leaders to fulfill their responsibilities without unnecessary oversight, allowing them the flexibility to balance ministry needs with personal time management. Our focus is to help others know God and how to be his people and how to change lives and we believe a minister should be similarly focused, whether it’s helping others develop church bulletins or teaming up with the Elders to visit those in the hospital or nursing homes. We want a minister involved in people’s lives.
We believe it is important that a minister should not do God’s work completely alone and want him to know that the elders are there to talk to and offer guidance and support.
We have monthly leadership meetings to report accomplishments and plan strategies.
We have church data software that the minister should use to help him do his job more effectively
With times being as they are, a thorough background check is required as all our ministry leaders have had one. This will be done when hired.
We believe a minister should be required to:
Relate well with leadership, staff, members, volunteers and guests.
Flexible and teachable team player and leader.
Accomplish assigned tasks using highly developed written and verbal communication, project management, time management and collaboration skills.
Perform high quality, detailed work with minimal supervision.
Think strategically while focused on the accomplishment of current ministry priorities.
Handle confidential matters and materials with professional excellence.
Be an example of ministry qualifications (1 Timothy 3: 1-7).
Our minister’s responsibilities should be to:
Effectively preach and teach the Word of God. Manage administrative tasks related to preaching including sermon preparation.
Effectively articulate the identity, mission and vision of Valley Christian Church,
Work with ministry staff and volunteers to provide for the needs of the congregation and community; weddings, funerals, baptisms, counseling, ministry programs, etc…
Work with the congregation to provide service and ministry opportunities such as establishing and guiding small groups.
Actively engage with the broader community through outreach initiatives, service projects and partnerships with local organizations, demonstrating our commitment to community through service and compassion.
Facilitate new/prospective members gathering on an as-needed basis.
Represent the congregation in public forums, interfaith gatherings and community events, serving as a positive ambassador for our faith, mission, vision and values.
